If you have not already, make your display name your character name.
(I don't know who CutiePaiWoofLuverXxX12 is. Who are you? I have no clue. Keep it simple.)
(Recommended)
Give your character a bio.
(They help to flesh-out character and keep track of details. They are really fun to make if you have a good one, so why not, right? If you don't want to, fine.)
No evil-mc-evilsons.
(Basically don't make your character only evil and dark. It is never fun to role-play with someone who is constantly acting sinister and depressed or reliving memories of the past. There is obviously some evil in the role-play, but it doesn't need to be the only thing you role-play.)
Do not hate on someone who tries to join the role-play.
(I know that when bigger groups gather and role-play, people always try to get involved. It is annoying, but you can simply block them or ask them to politely to leave because we are a plotted role-play. If you don't want drama, don't cause it. We are going to have a map so this shouldn't be an issue, but if we are out recruiting and someone comes by this rule applies.)
Do not spam.
(I assume that our literate members will be respectful, but if that is not the case, then you will be quickly punished. It may be funny to you, but it is not to other members and it often interferes with people trying to genuinely role-play. If no one is role-playing and you guys are just messing around and no one is complaining, then it is fine to be stupid in the chat, but if someone says to stop, you do it.)
No action marks in post.
(Example: -she did a thing- We are literate and expect you to role-play as if you were writing a book. Make sure to describe what is going on around your character, what they are thinking, how they are feeling, etc, not just what they are doing.)
You may have only TWO characters.
(If you have multiple accounts, know that that is already against FH rules, but, the rule applies to ALL accounts. If you make more than one you have to be active on both. Also, please do not make two accounts on the website, rather, separate your character's names in some way or only use your main character name.)
No auto-hitting.
(This rule becomes even more important when it comes to fighting. Example: -she bit down and ripped off the wolf's head- Not only is this post highly illiterate, but the other player did not get an option to react. This forms grudges and makes fights very frustrating, thus, causing OOC drama. Seriously, don't do it.)
(Recommended)
When fighting, try and decide on who is going to win.
(This may seem like it is impossible because both people want to win, but think about what character is physically stronger, which has more motive, and what are the advantages and disadvantages. If your character would have a really hard time beating the other, then say you will loose. Specify how and if there are any other consequences. The best role-plays happen when everyone is aware that they are role-playing a character and that characters are not perfect. Loosing does not mean dying, unless you want it to. What is easiest to do is when you see your character about to spar or fight just whisper the other person and say "I am ____(weaker, wounded, younger, etc.) so I will loose, and I will just get pinned and surrender." or something to that effect. Another option is to simple be the bigger person and lose if a fight drags on ridiculously long.)
Do not use knowledge you know OOC when IC/Roleplaying.
(You may know that Wolf-A is going to make a sneak attack on you, but your character does not. Sweet, sweet obliviousness.)
Try to post at least one paragraph.
(Again, we are literate so multiple paragraphs are expected when role-playing. I understand that people have off days or are tired, this rule mostly applies to when it occurs regularly. One-liners will NEVER be acceptable. If you must, put -s- or another mark so we know that the post was short. During fights or quick-paced RP shorter posts will be more acceptable.)
Respect those with higher ranks than you.
(This applies both IC and OOC. IC: those wolves were given those ranks for a reason and are doing their jobs to keep the role-play in order. OOC: the admins and staff work to make sure you even have a role-play to be part of. There should be no reason to disrespect them.)
Mating is not public.
(If you really have to mate with your IC mate, do it in whisper and away from others. No one wants to see/read that. I don't see why that has to be part of your role-play, but if you must keep it away from others. If you are caught doing it in local, you will be kicked. There are younger people on FH and that should not be something that occurs there.)
Do not be an attention seeker.
(No one is interested in OOC drama. People come on Feral Heart so that they can role-play a character. No one wants you bringing in your OOC issues in-game. Not only do most people lie anyway, but it just makes you seems childish. It often takes time away from role-plays and will cause people to dislike to be around you or the role-play.)
Only High Ranks get items.
(Yes this may seem unfair, however there are IC reasons why. Rituals and customs take place that cause this. If you character is not of the Crown or High Tier please remove all items.)
You are not the main character.
(Same as above, but IC. People do not want to be dragged into IC drama if they were not apart of it. In role-plays, if you are the type that constantly is having some tragic event happen and you are always taking center stage you will be kicked. I don't care. This is a rule I am very strict on. It is annoying and it ruins the role-play for others. If you want to be the main character, go write a book or something, role-plays are not for that.)
Your character is not a god.
(It is near impossible that a character will escape totally unharmed from a fight or hunting trip. Injuries don't have to be life threatening, but your character would probably be sore and breathing hard at least.)
If you are learning a rank or in training, do not level up.
(You don't decide when you get a rank, that is for your mentor or the higher ranks. You pick your rank at the beginning, and you must follow the proper steps to rank up. People always want the highest rank the fastest, but role-plays are just as enjoyable at a lower or starting rank.)
Role-play in general when you are farther away, and in local when in a group or one-on one.
(This reduces the accidental post-cutting and makes it easier to keep track of the role-play that you are involved in.)
Look realistic.
(Obviously there are unrealistic elements to the role-play. I know, it sucks. But you are still role-playing an animal and wolves don't come in neon.)
NO post-cutting.
(It is highly annoying if you do it on purpose or ignore 'continued' marks. It makes it near impossible to keep track of the role-play and it just becomes a jumble. I understand that sometimes you post accidentally or miss a 'continued' mark, so once every now and then won't be an issue. Just apologize so we know that you messed up on accident. If this becomes a trend you will have consequences. Continued marks: > >> -c- ( c ) [...] End marks: < << -d- (d) or simply with no mark.)
Swearing is allowed in moderation.
(If you are following FH rules, you should be old enough to handle a bit of adult language. But, please don't make your character or yourself a huge potty-mouth. It can get annoying and uncomfortable. Try and save it for intense situations.)
Role-play in third-person.
(He/She)
Be active.
(I have my fair share of just being busy, so you are not expected to be on every day. All I ask is that you at least try and be active on the weekends in game and maybe check in on the forum a few times. If you will be gone for an extended period, post to the forum under "Absent." The general limit to be kicked is 3-4 weeks (that is a lot, but I am a pretty laid-back person.))
No grammar snobs and know-it-alls.
(People get tired or type too fast sometimes. This is very annoying when it happens OOC because it is informal, but IC corrections can make people feel embarrassed or disrupt their posts. It also can cause grudges and keep in mind that things like dyslexia exist and people make mistakes.)
Keep OOC and IC issues separate.
(If someone annoys you OOC don't go and attempt to kill their character or pups or take action against them IC. If you follows the rules, there shouldn't be much OOC drama, so please just don't. People who were not involved OOC will be affected if it is brought IC.)
Mentors are expected to teach you.
(In terms of teaching fighting, this rule is here so you know what you can and cannot do with power. Also it is an easy way to have something to role-play about.)
Wear your assigned ranking.
(The tags are used so we can keep track of ranks and know when to submit to people IC. No one knows everyone in a role-play. They are made for ease. People don't have time to read every bio in the group. This should be the first thing you go and do after reading the rules.)
No M or F in your name.
(It makes you seem illiterate and that information belongs in your bio. If you have a character that looks or has a name that may be mistaken, mention your gender often when you role-play.)
Try to have parents/guardians if you are a pup.
(This will deter the 'I'm an orphan and hurt please love me' cliche and will give younger members who have no rank something to role-play about. Please no parent-begging is is almost worse than mate-begging. If there are no parents who are wanting to take a pup, the healers also help care of pups.)
No mate-begging.
(Don't. I'm serious.)
Don't change character appearances.
(Once you join keep your general look. This is so you can be familiar with your character, but mostly so others can recognize you and get to know you. If you have a preset. Simple changes like eye color or mane color are fine, but don't go from a pure white wolf to a black wolf after being in the role-play for a long time.)
Do not ask for higher ranks.
(You will get them if you deserve them. If incapable people are assigned high ranks the role-play will suffer and die a painful death. It is okay to not be on top. [While on this subject if you try and become a leader's mate just so you can have authority I will find out and I will burn you alive. It is stupid and makes leaders feel less open to taking mates and being friendly.] Know that when you pick your starting rank you will level up in that path. If you want a high rank the best way to do it is to be active!)
To earn a High Rank, you need to prove yourself.
(I'm not kidding when I say that actions speak louder than words. Helping out with the RP, answering questions, being nice, and generally earning it through RP are all great ways to earn the trust and respect you will need to advance to a High Rank! If we {Lord Hemlock or Beta Mai} think you have earned a High Rank, we will either message you on the site, or whisper you ingame to inform you!)
Have fun!!!
(I know, I put a lot of scary rules, but you will thank me. Role-play is just one side to being in a group and you should have fun a goof off with your friends OOC it makes FH enjoyable. c:)
